How a defense engagement runs

The sequence is the same whether the engagement covers one subsystem or a platform, and it is scoped to where the program sits against its milestones.

  1. Scoping call. The program, its phase, its constraints, and what the engineering team is actually worried about. No charge and no obligation.
  2. Baseline review. Design documentation, requirements, existing risk artefacts and prior review findings, so the sessions start from what is already known.
  3. Facilitated sessions. Cross-functional DFMEA, PFMEA or risk assessment workshops with design, systems, manufacturing, quality, supply chain and test in the room together.
  4. Findings and mitigation. Prioritised risks with practical, costed mitigation options written for engineers rather than for a program file.
  5. Handover. Process documentation, templates and mentoring so the next assessment does not need us.

Frequently asked questions

Can you support ITAR-controlled or classified defense work?

We support ITAR-controlled programs with US persons where the customer holds the relevant registration and can sponsor access. Classified work depends on the clearance and facility requirements involved and is assessed case by case. Raise it on the first call and we will give you a straight answer rather than a maybe.

Do you work for primes, or for subcontractors and suppliers?

Both. Primes typically engage us for independent assessment and cross-supplier integration risk. Suppliers engage us to strengthen their own engineering evidence before a design review, which is often the difference between a review that passes and one that generates action items.

Our requirements are still changing. Is it too early for this work?

It is the opposite. Requirement volatility is itself a design risk, and identifying which design decisions are exposed to it is one of the most useful things an early assessment produces. Waiting until requirements settle usually means waiting until the design can no longer respond cheaply.

How does this fit alongside our existing systems engineering process?

It sits inside it. We facilitate the analyses your process already calls for and strengthen the ones it does not cover, using your templates and feeding your existing risk register. We are not proposing to replace a working process with ours.
